Go Cubs Go! 02:15
The sound of a case being opened Rings out like a call to arms I can hope that others have heard it And are on their way Yards outside of classrooms Diamonds of red slate And old chain linked fences Where you lay your hands For a moment one connection A simple wish To walk tomorrow with you There's red sand In my shoes and I’ll brush my fingers to yours And that's good enough It's good enough for me And that's good enough For me.

Her blue dress hangs fast from the branch of the tree Here in your heart she is all you can see That dress falls to the side and she catches your eye But you know it’s not the movies A perfect red light shines just out of sight A liar’s a liar I know that you’re right There just one more thing, then you wont see him a again And you’ll wish this was the movies We both know we’re trapped in a place where dreams are made And people say that miracles only happen up on the silver screen Make sure they got your good side, good side, good side She laughs at you, you curse her name it starts again and turns out the same Sometimes when the lights are low, the sound is deaf and movement slow The flickering glow, an empty seat, thousands of pages will never be seen The twenty-seventh take to swear you’re in love, make sure they got your good side You’ll see, you’ll swear, you’ll know it’s the movies We both know we’re trapped in a place where dreams are made And people say that miracles only happen up on the silver screen Make sure they got your good side, good side, good side I know this part isn’t in the script but we’ll rattle some cages anyway Make sure they got your good side, good side, good side

Rooftops 02:42
A snap at the cold
 A tug at your shirt
 A chill down your spine
You know this will hurt Empty dark glass sits below in the dark
Don't run to the edge, your look feels… Sit on the grain as it shifts and it grinds
Smash into cinder and say you'll be fine
Eves need a cleaning this much I know
Throw a punch, take a glance, I know it won't Take your eyes off the ground to place them back in your skull
You're in control not bruised from the fall
Tug the cord so it guides falls in straight ahead
She'll forget all the gestures and hard times you
Said this won't hurt but it will catch off guard
In the night cut the cord the loose threads from your mind
 A long empty walk
 A garden unkempt
The tenses in which she’ll never accept
 Go gently to good nights
A lover unkind
A snap in the cold
And a chill down your spine Throw a punch take that glance Sit on the grain
Just so you know Just remember that: I don't hate you cause I want to but I'm getting pretty good at it And
I don't hate you cause I have to but I think I’ve got the best of it I don't hate you cause I want to but I'm getting pretty good at it And
I don't hate you cause I have to but I think I’ve got the best of it (Please believe me that I love you and I want you And I hope that someday you can forgive me to)

Prospect 04:30
Somewhere at the bottom there's a bottle in the ocean
If you get to it in time it will grant the wish it's given
Like to not get left behind in this simple life we live in
It's a grand statement of all these bastards and the women
My grandfather worked at this old mill his whole life
When he came home there were six kids and a wife
It's so hard to get out but just keep this in mind
The only thing I'm asking you is don't leave me behind Underneath the gaslight is where your body’s buried We’ll all get there in time so there is no need to hurry So get me out, get me out and please Don’t leave me behind Will you think of me when I’m gone?
Just cause you’re dead doesn’t mean I love you
Will you wait up nights all alone?
But I just can’t help thinking of you
If I haunt you like a ghost?
Promise it won’t seem like forever
I got this bottle and I close my eyes I make a wish but still I, still I see you tonight
Somewhere at the bottom there's a bottle in the ocean
If you get to it in time it will grant the wish it's given Take away all of your god-given imperfections Stand up tall and see what your life really means Will you think of me when I’m gone?
Just cause you’re dead doesn’t mean I love you
Will you wait up nights all alone?
But I just can’t help thinking of you
If I haunt you like a ghost?
Promise it won’t seem like forever
I got this bottle and I close my eyes I make a wish but still I, still I see you tonight Your sickness won’t bring you peace Did you die in your sleep?

Empty Room 03:04
Every time that I take your hand, when there’s nothing left for us Every time that you feel this way there is nothing more that I can possibly say After a while we all feel this way After a while I hold on to your hand After all this time you’ll say almost anything and you’ll come back to me again Every time that we reach out our hands there is nothing left for anyone to take When we were young and so in love we could always see what lay ahead Waking up inside an empty room Nothing left to see but the glow on a TV screen I’d ask for anything I’d give up anything Just to wake up next to you again Every time we fall apart I say I’m sorry this time And that’s why you cry and say those words you never take back (Just once we’d be alone) Never take back (There is nothing left to see) Never take back I swear I would die (for almost anything) Just for one more chance (Just one chance) To see you again

We Call Home 02:44
Your chest is an empty sacrament a place where I keep my batteries And posters of those dead and long ago, dead and long And what you need is a spiritual guide someone to tell you the difference Between what feels good, right, wrong, posters, posters and batteries Pack up the car and board up the door tie down the tarp and pack up the car Pack up the car and board up the door Guess we should be leaving now Guess we should be leaving now Guess we should be leaving now Guess we should be leaving now I think we should be leaving now And it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes guess we should be leaving And it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes and it takes I think we should be leaving now

Fredo 01:46
Fredo knows a lot about prison As he eyes the skill-saw by his hand White noise in the kitchen helps him drown his inhibitions I think the missus will understand In meal time and prayer time and in his sleep He's surrounded by a certain breed The rapists and killers and pleading deceivers Fredo feels strangely at ease Steady with the pistol old friend Waiting for that metal to expand A scream and a shot Fredo was caught In a bloody mess he didn't plan Fredo knows a lot about prison His cell growing smaller everyday A painful expression of joyful obsession Fixed on the ring he couldn't slay

Rubbish 04:21
Walk this icy road, through the cold and empty streets Frostbite gets your nose through the scarf around your neck And it’s cold, and it’s cold, and it’s cold outside Paper plates caught in the breeze, at a party where no one came The wedding’s a block away to remind us what we forgot And the wind takes a spark to the place that we can’t hide And the garbage men are keeping order while the cops clean up the streets An ambulance ride is all they need for a another catastrophe There’s a one-armed man in the boxing ring with another who cannot see Bread in a tin lunch box, the bus comes by at eight A possible trade will be made today for some cards and some batteries And it’s an old, it’s an old, it’s an old lunch box A worn out for sale sign, the old house down the road Kids were there but they’ve all grown now, where they’ve gone nobody knows And it's an old, it's an old, it's an old sign And the garbage men are keeping order while the cops clean up the streets An ambulance ride is all they need for a another catastrophe There’s a one-armed man in the boxing ring with another who cannot see And the school bus drivers put out the fires while the trucks take kids to school Refractions and reflections form a brilliant epiphany There’s a one-armed man in a boxing ring with another who cannot see A funeral line slows down, to wait for its honoured guest The small crowd forms a line, to throw dirt on a cheap pine box And it goes in the ground it goes six feet down And it goes in the ground it goes six feet down And it goes in the ground it goes six feet down

Dysphoric 03:31
Take the tap water off the shelf I think it’s time we move to the bunker Send my love to the boys and men They’ll need it when they head to frontline Father said that growing up with me Was tough I didn’t know how to act With the boys and girls in our hometown Our hands would touch make me feel so… Mother cried when she saw me In the underground wearing all of her Please don’t walk away from me You’re perfect oh no please don’t walk away from me So please light a candle For midnight and meet me out Where our portions aren’t rationed Our lives are not fair And we'll scream We'll stand up We'll rally The rebels will come So please light a candle And you are so perfect Our lives are not fair And oh you are so perfect Our lives are not fair And oh you are so perfect Oh you are so I’ll kiss you; you’re beautiful I want this to stop

When you go west the sunset seems so much longer, It doesn’t seem the same in the middle of winter You’ll seem unable even to say So my sons & daughters we’ll go on an adventure go west young lad until you see the showers Of a whale off course searching for a long way home Now the lights all fade far from this shore But the sun’s so bright you can’t take much more If you turn away now everything will change And if nothing else it’s been a wonderful Maine day in fall Maine day in fall Where does the sky end and the earth begin? It’s riddles like this that still hurt my head It's the middle of the night and it’s clear as day Breaks when the skin turns red Come tomorrow we’ll all be dead Take my hand as we’re looking for a long way home Now the lights all fade far from this shore But the sun’s so bright you can’t take much more If you turn away now everything will change And if nothing else it’s been a wonderful Maine day in fall Maine day in fall

I wrote a letter today Simply to say that a heart cannot root If buried too deep in the ground We'll walk above and hear the beating sound I wrote a poem today Left it behind with little to say A quiet goodbye for only your eyes Saying farewell Goodnight ladies and farewell gentlemen I'll write I miss you and set it to the wind Wrapped in a bottle with some of my cares Goodnight ladies, oh goodnight ladies

about

This is the best place to say thank you to a lot of people. First: Aidan Lytton, our producer, mix master, and honourary fourth member, who spent two weeks in a basement with us and then months on his own making this album the best it could be. It's obvious we couldn't have done it without you. To Ryan's parents, Chris and Gord, who supplied the basement we lived in while we recorded this, thank you for putting up with four vagabonds in your house and letting us play until all hours of the night. Natalie and Ali, for living with us while we created these songs, sorry for all the noise and thank you for understanding, you're both amazing. And finally, thank you to James Wade for creating some beautiful album art that reminds us where we came from.
As for the album, we know what it means to us, now it's your turn, thank you for listening to our music.

about

The Left Behinds Calgary, Alberta

A blend of folk, rock and acoustic music this band features good humour and tragic melancholy, often at the same time. Swirling guitars give way to indie drumbeats, and bombastic vocals trade off with gentle folk melodies in a way that is always unpredictable, yet somehow familiar. With a penchant for melodramatic crescendos, The Left Behinds are a band that refuses to be pinned down. ... more
